Overview
The Part-time Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of Peter Paul RVA by managing day-to-day accounting functions, assisting with grant tracking, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of financial information used to support programs, donors, and partners. The Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Finance.
Responsibilities:
• Record and reconcile financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit best practices
• Maintain the general ledger and prepare monthly journal entries
• Complete bank and credit card reconciliations
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
• Track revenue and expenses by program, grant, and funding source
• Support grant management by ensuring proper allocation, tracking, and reporting of restricted funds
• Process accounts payable, including vendor invoices, and recurring payments
• Support the annual audit, and compliance documentation
• Maintain documentation and uphold strong internal controls and financial policies
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum 2 years of accounting experience (nonprofit and/or education-focused organization preferred)
• Knowledge of FASB standards for nonprofit organizations
• Familiarity with fund accounting and grant tracking
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks,) and Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
Compensation and Benefits
This part-time position is expected to be available during normal business hours. The salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Founded by John Coleman in1979, it is the oldest community-based agency continually serving East End children and families. Peter Paul serves students in grades 1-12 through its flagship academic Youth Program, giving children a safe, consistent, structured, and loving environment in which to thrive during out-of-school time.
